2016 was a fantastic year for the Riverview High School duo of Bailey Hertenstein and Alyssa Hendrix. In the fall, the pair finished 1-2 in most races throughout the season, the Sharks qualified for the Cross Country Finals and finished 11th in the state's largest classification, 4A. Hendrix was third individually as a freshman and Hertenstein continued her win streak in Florida in 17:40.36.
Fast forward to 2017 and Hertenstein has transferred to Newsome for her senior year. The "Hurricane" is still on a roll having won both the Lecanto Invitational and St. Cloud Invitational. However, Hendrix is hot on her heels. She is 3-3 on the season including a 30 second PR just last weekend in the elite race at the North Port Invitational.
For Hertenstein it's about keeping the train moving and continuing her dominance, her third straight Race of Champions title is up for grabs and cross country title number three as well.
