Bolles senior and Stanford signee Caitlin Collier didn't compete during the 2017 cross country. Instead, she opted for her specialty outdoor and putting the best senior season together she possibly could. Collier ran the 200 at the Bolles Pre-Season Mini Meet as well as some relays, but Friday night she opened up in the 800 and 1,600m run.
At the East Coast Classic, she dropped a US#1 4:53.86 to win the 1,600 by nearly twenty-five seconds over her nearest competitor. The mark was the fourth fastest she'd ever run in that event for her career. A short time later, she ran the two-lap 800 meters, covering the distance in another national leader, 2:09.63 to edge out Jatana Folston who set the state record in the 600m and US#2 all-time this month. Collier ran 2:09.37 to win the meet last year and ended 2017 with a personal best of 2:03.93.
"It was fine," said Coach Dan Dearing. "We only had about 30 minutes between races and she's been sick all week. I'm glad she ran though because it was a good experience for her. I'm hoping she can run a little better next week."
