Tamari Davis is out here making records look easy.
That's at least one way to describe her weekend, which included two national wins in the 60m and 200m at New Balance Nationals Indoor in New York.
The Gainesville (FL) High freshman essentially set the track on fire, tying for the sixth fastest 60m of all-time (7.25) and narrowly escaping a brave challenge by Ohio starlet Abby Steiner in the 200m to win in 23.46.
She bested her 60m time in every single round heading into the final, going 7.40, 7.33 and then flourishing to the line in a freshman class record attempt of 7.25 seconds. Davis also set a freshman class record in the semifinals of her 200m, going 23.24 seconds.
Kind of crazy, right? Especially when you consider there are a handful of unbelievable girls sprinters in the country right now. That includes Denver East (CO) High junior Arria Minor, who won the 400m in a relatively easy 52.74 (it should be noted that talented Florida sprinter Briana Williams wasn't at New Balance, either).
Davis's effort in the 60m was the most impressive, though, without question. She went lane-v-lane against US No. 1 Thelma Davies, and ultimately came out of her drive with controlled precision, besting Davies (7.33) by 0.08 seconds.
