Recently, Miami Norland (FL) High junior Tyrese Cooper learned this after suffering an injury at New Balance Nationals Indoor on March 11 in New York.
At the beginning of the month, Cooper had secured a new all-conditions personal best in the 100m of 10.34 (+2.1) seconds at the Sam Burley Invitational. But near the end of that meet, he told Flrunners, he sustained what he believed to be a groin injury.
The national level sprinter traveled to New Balance Nationals Indoor the very next weekend, from March 9-11, and re-aggravated that injury twice -- once while warming up (an athlete jumped in front of Cooper) and then again minutes later in the 400m final.
While Cooper is still waiting for the results of his full MRI, his coach Darius Lawshea says the injury impacts his hip flexor and the junior will have to sit approximately 6-8 weeks.
