Salute To Seniors: Brianna Oats - The King's Academy

Today we salute The King's Academy senior Brianna Oats.

What was your most memorable race?

My most memorable race moment was regionals this year at Calvary Christian when I was last leg for our 4x4 team and was able to take us from fifth place to first. Our boys and girls team ended up winning regionals that night as well.

Who would you consider your biggest competition?

My biggest competition would be Hannah Kanjian from Oxbridge because she pushed me to PR in every hurdle race.

What was your greatest accomplishment?

My greatest accomplishment is being able to run track in college and get my education paid for.

If you could do it all over again what would you change about your running career in high school?

I would have started running Fast Lane Track Club and training with Coach Walker sooner.

What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome?

I got into a really bad car accident when I was 17 and i was unable to run what would have been my first indoor season with Fast Lane.  It was really hard to muster up the courage to step back on the track after missing so much training.

What will you miss the most?

I will miss states with all of my teammates from Fast Lane and school. I will also miss all the post-meet dinners and mall trips.

What advice you would give to younger athletes?

Don't let your emotions effect how hard you're trying whether it be on the track or in school. As a student athlete, taking care of your mental health is just as important as your physical health, don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

What influence has your coach had with respect to your performance and overall life goals?

My coach has never given up on me even when I was close to giving up on myself. He never denied my requests for extra training and would always go the extra mile for me.

What are your college plans?

I plan to study criminology and run track at Tusculum University in Greeneville, Tennessee.

Who would you like to say thank you to?

I would like to thank my parents, grandparents, Coach Walker and Coaches Janis and Dwight Smith.
