Florida Teams Conquered Great American Race of Champions

Florida teams and athletes showed exactly how strong our state is at Great American this past weekend. The headline event of the weekend was the Race of Champions and FL did not disappoint in it's performance on the WakeMed course.

Chiles Packs Up to Win Girls Race of Champions Title

After a big Race of Champions win over AL #1 Mountain Brook at the FLRunners Invitational, Chiles did it again up in NC at Great American.

If you want to talk pack running, talk to the Chiles girls. The team won the ROC with only one athlete in the top 15! The Timberwolves put their pack to the test and had 5 girls sub 19:20, proving they are the best in the state so far this season and will always be tough to beat.

Chiles won the race with 127 points with Saratoga Springs coming in second with 154 points.

Not only did the Florida girls take over the team title, but individuals dominated the ROC. Florida had 6 girls in the top 15. Three of those girls broke the 18 minute barrier.

Carly McNatt, eighth grader out of Holy Trinity Academy, was the first FL finisher in a time of 17:35 to place third in the ROC. Tsion Yared, junior out of Pine Crest, finished 4th in a time of 17:39, and Parker Valby, junior out of East Lake finished 7th in a time of 17:51.

It was a very fast day for FL. Most teams had several PR's and outstanding team performances. Here are just a few:

Pine Crest and Winter Park also had great days for their team. Winter Park had 3 girls sub 20 minutes and Pine Crest had their top 5 sub 20. A great showing by the Florida girls moving into the championship season.

Bolles Proves To Be The Fastest FL Squad In Race of Champions

Bolles showed they are the best team in state with their finish in the boys Race of Champions. With 5 guys sub 16:10, nearly sub 16 minutes, Bolles is a tough team to beat in the state of Florida and in the southeast.

Bolles finished second as a team behind Loudoun Valley (64 points) with 108 points. Led by their powerhouse senior squad, Charles Hicks was one of four athletes to break the 15 minute barrier. They are scheduled to compete up in NY for the Manhattan Invitational this weekend.

Just like the girls race, the individuals also continued to put Florida on the distance running map.

Ben Hartvigsen was the second FL athlete to cross the ROC finish line behind Hicks. Hartvigsen ran a speedy PR and new school record of 15:08 to finish 8th. Gabriel Montague, a sophomore out of Satellite HS, finished 21st with a PR of 15:29.

Hartvigsen and Montague led their teams to success as well. Satellite HS finished 11th with Sarasota following behind finishing 14th.

It was a fast weekend for FL. Unfortunately, we will not be able to see all the teams go head to head at the FSU Invite due to Hurricane Michael, but this will make for a very exciting and mysterious championship season!
