At the 2015 Golden South Classic, six boys went sub 4:20 in the boys Dream Mile Qualifier.
There was a lot on the line for this race -- invitations for the 2015 Dream Mile were running out, and for many milers, this was their last opportunity to show that they deserved a spot.
The fastest milers in Florida were present with Avery Bartlett, the recent 3A state 1600m and 800m champion out of Chiles ready to show off for the sunshine state.
Barlett wasn't going to run away with the win that easily. Conner Mantz from Utah and Bryce Balenseifen from Oklahoma knew this was their chance to qualify, so with hopes of qualifying for a paid trip to New York City in June by Adidas, they figured why not compete at one of Florida's premier track and field events.
Avery Bartlett, Conner Mantz, and Bryce Balenseifen left it all out on the line in one of the most exciting races in Golden South History and of the 2015 outdoor season.
1 Bartlett, Avery 12 Unattached (FL) 4:08.55 2 Mantz, Conner 12 Unattached (UT) 4:08.57 3 Balenseifen, Bryce 12 Unattached (OK) 4:11.27 4 Berryhill, Carlin 11 Unattached (FL) 4:17.83 5 Pittman, Frank 11 Unattached (GA) 4:17.94 6 Peeples, Connor 11 Cardinal Gib(NC) 4:19.62
Avery Bartlett's 4:08.55 win was the fastest boys mile race at Golden South since 2013 when Texas' Cameron Villarreal dropped a 4:08.11.
The Flo Golden South Classic is full of epic races and competitions like this one and this year will be nothing short of elite.
