The middle school girls 400m finals at the FLYRA Middle School State Championships was one heck of a race.
Coming in with the fastest seed time of the year, Jaellene Burgess, was ready to go for the state title, but she would have a few challengers at the top. REAL South Athletic Club teammate, Christin Facey, and MGX eighth grader, Cha'iel Johnson were not going to go down with out a fight.
As all three ladies came down the backstretch by the 200m mark, Facey looked to be making up the stagger in the lead. Facey, Burgess, and Johnson came down the homestretch with Johnson having a slight edge over Facey and Burgess.
With 50m to go, seventh grader Christin Facey turned on the jets and separated herself from Burgess and Johnson to take the win in a smoking time of 54.19 with Burgess in second in 54.64, and Johnson in third in a time of 54.77.
Calvary Christian eighth grader, Samantha Kavanagh, took fourth in a time of 57.73 after her stellar 1A 800m third place finish at the FHSAA State Finals in a time of 2:11.53.
Facey's 54.19 400m win at the Middle School State Championships is a new middle school US No. 1 performance.
