Vicioso Continues To Dominate Following 3 State Titles

Angel Vicioso took the state of Florida by storm after his three state title wins a few weeks back at the FHSAA 4A State Championship and continues to do so.

Vicioso was one of the athletes that did a distance triple at the state meet in one day. Early in the morning he helped lead his 4x800m team to an epic 7:45.95 finish to claim the 4A state title, he followed that win up a few hours later with a 4:15.93 1600m, then after weather delays and two hard races, Vicioso kicked it in to win the 3200m in a new personal record of 9:15.05.

After all of the craziness that was the state meet with weather delays and race strategy changes, Vicioso proved to have the mental toughness of a champion and his actions showed.

Following his stellar weekend, the Central Florida Native traveled to the Avery Creek Distance and Throwers Showcase to get an 800m race in prior to Golden South. The Oviedo senior had a stellar performance, running a then PR of 1:56.50.

This weekend, Vicioso continued his dominance on the track at the Flo Golden South Classic 800m.

Vicioso did not go into this race as one of the top seeds. After only racing the open 800m twice this season, it would be key for his competitors to know his progression this season and not to count him out to be at the top of the pack.

After the first lap, Vicioso showed the field that he would not be counted out in this event. The Oviedo senior moved his way up to compete with Newsome middle distance star, Dominic Acosta up front. Vicioso passed Elijah Gotshall and Acosta on the inside of the track and it was going to be a battle between Acosta and Vicioso for the win.

As they came down the home stretch Vicioso found another gear and pulled away from Acosta to drop a 55 second last quarter and negative split to run a new open 800m personal record of 1:54.07 with Acosta right behind in 1:55.07.
