Denton, Schulz Victorious at Astronaut Invitational


Lake Wales teammates battled down to the finish, Timber Creek's Amber Schulz opened up her season with a win, Father Lopez's Green Wave ran as a pack, and the Oviedo lions won the boys race at the Astronaut Invitational with ease.

Amber Schulz, Father Lopez Ladies Open Season Victoriously 

After a strong freshman track season, Amber Schulz, opened up her sophomore cross country season with a varsity girls win at the Astronaut Invitational in a time of 18:59. She was third overall in the 4A girls 3200m race at the state championship in a PR of 10:43 and will be one to watch progress this season amongst the 4A ladies. 

Titusville's Billie Castillo and Riley Jaszczak were the next to cross the finish line in 29:11 and 19:41 respectively on the Chain of Lakes course. 

Father Lopez had a stellar race with seniors Claire McDonnell and Samantha Gayton leading the way with two sub 20 minute finishes. The Green Wave took the team win over Timber Creek with 109 points. 

Denton, Updike Battle at Finish, Oviedo Takes Win With Ease

On the boys side, it was a battle right down to the finish line between teammates, Anderson Denton and Mac Updike

Denton edged Updike down the homestretch of the race, finishing first in a time of 16:03.66 with Updike right behind in 16:05.82. Denton's performance was over a minute improvement from his season opener at the Jim Ryun Invitational earlier this season, and Updike's was a new PR for the junior. 

Zachary Cloud and Gavin O'Brien were the next two finishers in 16:16 and 16:25. 

Oviedo's Mamush Galloway finished fifth place and led his fellow Lions to a 94 point victory over Lake Wales.
