The Flagler Palm Coast community has been hit hard in more ways than one over the past year.
With a death of fellow teammate, Curtis Gray, in early April to Allen Roberson's diagnosis with a rare germ cell brain tumor, the team has watched first hand what it means to support others as they face adversity.
Over the past year, FPC has dedicated performances to #LongLiveCurt and #RunForAllen, but this season, after a long and tough 18 months, Allen Roberson will get to run for his team.
Months of hospital visits, chemotherapy treatments, and six sessions of brain surgery have culminated to a breakthrough moment for Roberson to return to the sport -- a feat that had the entire team and coaching staff cheering him on along the way.
The FPC coaching staff can almost always be seen sporting a "#ForAllen" t-shirt or bracelet. But, this experience has been about more than just a hashtag for both Roberson and the team. See, Coach David Halliday, Alex Giorgianni, and many others have joined Roberson on several hospital visits -- leaving encouraged and inspired by Roberson's ability to face adversity.
As a senior, Roberson is looking to run a competitive race before the end of the season. One thing is for sure, the former regional-qualifier will be pushing his body and mind to the limit.
