Ocala Vanguard Middle Distance Standout Goes With the Gators

Lewis Benitez announced his commitment to the University of Florida on Tuesday night. He took to Instagram to announce the news.

Benitez has been a pivotal athlete for the Ocala Vanguard Knight's 4x800m squad, help leading them to back to back state championship titles.

This past track season, not only did Benitez help his team bring home a relay title, but he also brought home a third place state finish in the 1600m. The week after, he had a breakout run at Golden South to win the championship mile in a stellar 4:17.

The future Gator holds PR's of 1:57 in the 800m, 4:20 in the 1600m, 4:17 in the one mile, 9:52.91 in the 3200m, and 15:59 in the cross country 5k.
