2020 FHSAA XC State Meet Featured Many Back-to-Back Wins

The 2020 FHSAA Cross Country State Championship featured many back-to-back wins from many Florida standouts. Here are just a few of the moments from the 2019 season that saw a repeat this 2020 season.

Kicking off the back-to-back wins this past weekend was the Winter Springs ladies who successfully defended their 3A team title. For another season, the Bears were led by distance star Caroline Wells who dropped a new course record performance, running a time of 17:16.5 this weekend. Leon High School took home the state runner-up team trophy with their 19:33 team average.

The 3A boys race also featured a strong back-to-back performance from the Belen boys who rewrote the record books this past weekend, becoming the best Florida boys program with 12 state titles, with Coach Frankie Ruiz earning his 11th title, eclipsing Legendary Largo Coach Brent Haley and his 10 state titles. The Belen Wolverines defended their title with the leadership from seniors Javi Vento and Aiden Villasuso and their 15:22 and 15:41 runs. Sunlake captured the runner-up team title with their 57 second 1-5 split.

The 4A boys featured another deja vu moment with Rheinhardt Harrison and Anderson Ball packing a one-two punch just like they did back in 2019. In the same dominating fashion, the Oak Hall girls and Seffner Christian boys successfully defended their 1A team titles against the Cambridge Christian girls and Oak Hall boys for yet another season. Oak Hall senior and Yale commit, Austin Montini also defended his own individual 1A state title with a kick to win this season with a 15:48.

Last year we watched the Satellite boys pack a one-two punch in the 2A race, this season the individual title went to yet another Satellite Scorpion, this time Josh Stern, and the Scorpions defended their 2A team title against the always strong, Bolles boys team.
