UF\'s Clement sets World Jr. Championship record, wins gold

Florida Gator Kerron Clement set a new championship record today, on his way to the gold medal at the World Junior Championships in Grosseto, Italy. The freshman won the 400 meter hurdles in a meet record time of 48.51, despite appearing to falter before the last two hurdles.

\"I am just really excited about getting a gold medal,\" Clement said, \"My race went well and I can\'t complain. It was windy and I did not let affect me. I did stutter step on one hurdle, when I heard Brandon (Johnson) coming up on my shoulders.\"

Clement has a lot to be excited about. Though just a freshman, the Texas native already has an NCAA title under his belt--he won the NCAA Outdoor Championships just last month in the same event. His latest championship time was not only the meet record, but the second fastest ever at the University of Florida.

\"This was a big PR for me. I was expecting this time but will try to improve since I\'m still young and going into my sophomore year at Florida.\"
