Football Star Denzel Alexander Transforming Into Track Star

Results: Martin County Preseason Meet

Martin County football star and emerging track star Denzel Alexander posted two sizzling times in the Martin County Preseason Meet on Thursday, February 11th. Only a sophomore, Alexander threw down personal best times of 11.02 in the 100-meter dash and 22.77 in the 200-meter dash to finish clear ahead of the field in both races.

Expect big things from him this spring based on his start in the 2021 outdoor season.

The Martin County boys nearly swept all of the running events on the day in the 7-team meet if it was not for Vero Beach senior Willaime Ylance winning both hurdles races with performances of 14.94 in the 110-meter hurdles and 41.29 in the 300-meter hurdles.

Vero Beach also had a double winner in the boys' throwing events with Brandon Neely besting the field in the discus (104'11.75") and shot put (40'4.25"), while his teammate Ephraim Floyd secured first place in the javelin with a top throw of 111 feet even.

Alexander was not the only star for the Martin County squad as senior Benjamin Lamothe was easily the top performer in both the boys' long jump at 21 feet even and triple jump at 44 feet and 11 inches.

The relays were a clean sweep for the Martin County boys as well in the 4x100 (43.14) featuring Alexander on the second leg, the 4x400 (3:34.37), and 4x800 (8:43.11).

On the girls' side of the meet, almost a handful of girls enjoyed double individual victories on the day.

Vero Beach junior Jada Rolle stared on the straightaways on both the track and runway rolling to a 12.74 win in the girls' 100-meter dash, while also recording the farthest leap in the long jump as well at 17 feet and a quarter inch.

Her sophomore teammate Jamya Brown also was a dominant winner of a pair of events in both hurdles races as she clocked winning times of 18.67 in the 100-meter hurdles and 51.08 in the 300-meter hurdles.

Martin County's top distance girl in junior Gina Fuca was able to withstand the challenge of Jupiter sophomore Alexa Hanssen twice in coming across the line in first place for both 1600 (5:47.67) and 800 (2:32.12) meter races.
