Top Boys To Watch At Golden South Series #3

Samuel Austin (Oviedo) - Boys 400m

The nation's fastest still at 800 meters from his April 3rd run of 1:50.00 at Showalter Field in Winter Park is Oviedo senior Samuel Austin. He will be racing in his second-best event in the 400 meters, which due to the close proximity to the 800 meters in the schedule had to drop the event and not compete in it at the district, regional, or state level.

He broke 48 seconds twice in the event during the regular season with a 47.71 PR. Austin plans to compete late into the summer including an invitation to the Seattle, Washington for the Brooks PR Invitational on July 2nd, so Golden South serves as a bridge of the time gap between his 4A state title win the 800 earlier this month til that national caliber 800-meter race. He will have his hands full on Saturday though at Lake Region with a stout and proven field of 400-meter competitors capable of going 48 seconds or even faster with him.
