Austin Montini (Oak Hall School) - Boys 800m
After missing several months of training due to a rare complication and health scare from catching the coronavirus, Austin Montini has been on a tear the last two months playing catchup. The 1A state champion this past month in the 1600 and 800-meter run, the senior from Oak Hall School in Gainesville threw down a monster last lap kick and personal best of 4:15 in the mile last week at Golden South Series #2 in a battle with Belen Jesuit's Adam Magoulas.
Last week was originally supposed to be his last race of high school, but likely sensing his fitness is too good right now and keeping the momentum going has Montini coming back again to race in the final Golden South Series to see if he can see another big PR but this time in the 800 as he's run 1:55.55 at the tail end of his state meet triple in early May. He will be part of a stellar field to shoot for another fast time including Cole Piotrowski and Christian Ruocco having running equally as fast if not faster times at 800 meters.
