A 15:17 performance at Apalachee Regional Park would normally earn a state title for runners in most years at the state meet but Viera senior Michael Toppi had to settle for second place in the 4A race behind one of the state's all-time greats in another senior in Nease's Rheinhardt Harrison with a 15:03 victory that was only four seconds off the course record. Two other seniors were also state champions on the day with slower times than 4A state runner-up Toppi in the 2A champion Nick Carpenter of Trinity Prep at 15:24 and the 1A champion Matthew Stratton of St. Johns Country Day School at 15:40.
