Micah Mays was one of the few boys state champions over the 4 days and 4 classifications that won state titles individually in both the field and running events. The Benjamin School junior Ways had to work hard for the 400 meter dash title as a highly motivated Jacob Panzarella of First Bapstist frustrated from not being in the fast section to try and defend his 100 meter state title went out fast thru the first 300 meters in 34 seconds holding a considerable lead on Ways and the field. It

It was not until the final 30 meters when Mays zoomed past Panzarella closing fast to run a lifetime best and first time venturing into the 47 second range with a 47.52 victory, which ranks 9th fastest overall this season in the state of Florida.

Panzarella would still run near his PR at 48.22 for second place, while Orlando Christian Prep sophomore Gilbert Alexis Garcia would move up late for third in 49.02. While Benjamin School earned 10 points from Mays winning, Chaminade-Madonna would score 11 points in the event with 3 under 50 seconds and among the top 8 in Kwame Smith (4th, 49.53), Johnoy Johnston (5th, 49.56) and Tywan Cox (7th, 49.91).
