GIRLS STATE RANKINGS

1A Girls Rankings

By Sue O'Malley (FLCHS) somalley@fatherlopez.org

Team Rankings:

Commentary: The Lancers will be hard to beat again this season. They have a lot of depth and 4 runners in the top 15 in the team competition. Cambridge Christian looks to repeat as state Champions! Maclay finished 4th last season at the State Championship, Pensacola moves up 2 spots form their 5th place finish last year at the State Championships, Oak Hall moves down 2 spots but don't count this team out, Benjamin moves up 2 spots from 8th place last season at the State Championships, South Florida moves up 1 spot form their 9th place finish at the State Championships,  Westminster moves up 7 spots form their 16th place finish last season at the State Championships and making a huge jump is The Villages of Naples moving up 18 spots form their 28th place rankings last season! Best wishes to all the teams as we wind down our regular season very soon and get ready for our postseason!

Commentary: "Success isn't how far you have got, but the distance you have traveled where you started." - Pre. This quote seems to fit into the point of the season as we are in the core of our season and heading into the last mile of our season. Cambridge Lancer Girls hold the #1-2-8-14 positions in this first round rankings. Almost the same rankings the Lancers had at the end of their season last year 2021. Wishing all the girls a Stay healthy, injury free and keep up the amazing training and racing!

2A Girls Rankings

By Dylan Hermelee, Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart, CoachHermelee@gmail.com

Team Rankings:

Commentary: Hello all and welcome to another year of team rankings. We are about 4 weeks into the season so we have a much clearer picture of who the contenders are after some fast times were ran this weekend. Just a reminder, these rankings are subjective, but also based on data. It's not a pure "these are the top 10 teams according to the FLR XC Team Rankings." Not all XC courses are created equal. Course difficulty matters. Head-to-head performances are important. Also, please remember this is my first deep dive into the rankings so I may miss something. Lets ride!

Rank. (Previous Rank) School = Comments

1. (1) Bolles HS = Defending Champions! Bolles won the team title last year and all signs point to them repeating this year. They have a 1-2 punch from Jillian Candelino, the #1 ranked 2A runner and Ella Mickler, the #2 ranked 2A runner. They have great depth. Their #7 runner would be the #5 runner or better on every other team listed below. They are the team to beat.

2. (2) Berkley Prep HS = Berkley Prep ran very well at the North Port XC Invite this weekend, finishing 3rd overall in a loaded field. Berkley joined Bolles as one of two teams with three runners under 20 minutes. Half way into the season they look like a podium worthy team.

3. (3) Pine Crest HS = Well that rebuild didn't take long. In 2019 Pine Crest won the 2A crown, finished in the top 15 at Nike Cross Nationals, and then graduated 5 of their top 7. They didn't compete in 2020. They made it back to the state meet in 2021. Now with an entirely new group of athletes they are competing for a spot on the podium once again. They recently won the Spanish River Invite with a team average of !9:58. Brooke Hooper looks to contend for the individual title this year and their #6 and #7 have faster PR's than any other 2A's 6-7 not named Bolles. They are indeed a threat to make the podium.

4. (4) St Brendan HS = They return most of their top 7 from their 2nd place finish in 2021. They lack the depth the top 3 teams have and several of their top 5 runners have not run the same times as they did last year, but it is still early in the season. However, if their top 5 all run fast on the same day they can easily bounce back into that #2 spot.

5. (5) Bishop Kenny HS = What can I say, I am a sucker for a low 1-5 split, and Bishop Kenny is the only top 10 team with a sub 60 second split. They just competed at the Adidas XC Challenge and has a 36 second 1-5 split and a 19:58 team average. Although they are ranked 5th today, there is no reason that they cannot compete for a spot on the podium in November.

6. (6) Episcopal School of Jacksonville = They just returned from Cary North Carolina after competing at the Adidas XC Challenge. They finished 8th overall behind some of the best teams in the South East, and were only 7 points behind our #5 ranked team, Bishop Kenny.

7. (7) North Bay Haven = North Bay has 2 athletes ranked in the top 10, but then they fall off pretty had after their #3 runner. They will need their 4-5-6 runners to step up to succeed.

8. (8) Mount Dora HS = Very good team with decent depth. They have a solid 1-2 punch, but then their #3 is almost 2 minutes back. However, their #6 is within 20 second of their #3, so there's definitely potential with this team.

9. (9) Bishop Moore HS = A solid squad coming out of Central Florida. They have a great #1, but their #5 is a full 3:18 behind. They will need to close that gap to hold on to their top 10 ranking.

10. (10) South Walton HS = Was tempted to rank South Walton 9th, but Bishop Moore puts 3 in front of South Walton's #2. South Walton has great depth and should be a top 10 team in November.

Other teams to watch out for:

American Heritage Boca/Delray

Robinson

The Kings Academy

Bishop Verot

Lake Highland

Calvary Christian (Clearwater)

Academy of Holy Names

Individual Rankings:

Commentary: Same as above. Not all courses are the same. Head to head competition is heavily weighted. Lets ride!

Rank. (Previous Rank) Name, Grade -- School = Comments

1. (1) Jillian Candelino, 12 -- Bolles HS = Defending 2A State Champion! If you want to be the best, you got to beat the best! She has the fastest time in 2A so far and her only loss on the season (2nd place) came to the fastest runner in the state, who is not in 2A.

2. (2) Ella Mickler, 12 -- Bolles HS = Teammate to Candelino, she has the 3rd fastest time in 2A but has also been very consistent.

3. (3) Emma Hencock 12 -- St Brendan -- She recently won the Spanish River Invite, defeating Brooke Hooper (also on this list) in the process. Emma was 5th at the XC state meet last year and 2nd in the 3200.

4. (4) Brooke Hooper 11 -- Pine Crest -- Brooke finished 2nd at Spanish River, but ran an incredible 5k at the FNU invite located Larry and Penny a few weeks prior. Hencock gets the nod this time, but Hooper is a individual championship threat!

5. (5) Addison Dempsey 11 -- Cardinal Mooney HS -- Has the 2nd fastest time in 2A but no major victories. Her times have been a bit inconsistent, but her recent 18:24 od North Point proves she's a contender.

6. (6) Elizabeth Williamson 10 -- Holy Names HS -- Williamson has the 10th fastest time in the state, but she is also placed 3rd at the XC State meet in 2021 and won the mile at the outdoor state meet.

7. (7) Mackenzie De Lisle 10 -- Bishop Verot HS -- Mackenzie has run 18:40 this year and finished 7th overall at the North Port Invite.

8. (8) Avery Fronrath 11 -- Kings Academy HS- Avery ran 18:42 at Spanish River, where she finished 3rd. She was 9th at the XC state meet last year.

9. (9) Carly McNatt 12 -- Montverde Academy -- The former Footlocker qualifier makes the top 10 list with a 18:49 and 3rd place finish form the Zak Lukas Invite.

10. (10) Paige Mccaul 12 -- Bishop Moore -- Paige makes the list with a 18:57 time from Cecil Field. She also broke 19 at the East River Invite.

Other individuals to watch out for:

Hannah Latif -- Berkley Prep

Lucrezia Gowdy -- Episcopal School of Jacksonville

Kate Ruona -- Cardinal Mooney

Noell Vu -- Mount Dora

Charleen Elizondo -- North Bay Haven

Margret Bartlow -- North Bay Haven

Emma Flowers -- Berkeley Prep

Madison Carr -- Astronaut HS

Elizabeth Csikai -- Bolles

Mary Biagini -- Bishop Kenny HS

Team Rankings:

Commentary: The same two tea that battled it out in the 2021 season are the odds on favorites to repeat on the Podium in 2022. Trying to go back to back is Ponte Vedra. Osceola is doing their best to spoil it and have a solid pack that will be hard to beat. Naples and Leon are both making strong cases to spoil the show for one or both teams at the top if either of them misstep.

4A Girls Rankings

By Ray Romero, FACA XC Chair / Dunbar, RayHR@leeschools.net

Team Rankings:

Commentary: The top 2 teams in 4A are as close as it comes in any class. Defending Champions Buchholz have the fastest team average with a solid front pack of 4. While Niceville has a slightly slower average but a 1-5 spread of under 40s with their 6th and 7th ahead of Buchholz 5th runner. For now I give the edge to Niceville but do not count out Buchholz. Rank. (Previous Rank) School = Comments

1. (1) Bolles HS = At the moment Bolles seems to be running aware with the team title. They have an awesome 1-5 split of only 48 seconds and their team average of 16:28 is more than 30 seconds faster than the next best team.

2. (2) Bishop Verot HS = There a tight race for 2nd this year, but right now, Bishop Verot gets the nod based on their 37 second 1-5 split and the fact that their #6 runner would beat most other teams' listed #5 runners.

3. (3) Bishop Kenny HS = Bishop Kenny has a great #1 and very good depth. They recently ran up in North Carolina at the Addas XC Challenge where they had a 17:20 team average.

4. (4) Berkley Prep HS = They might have the most talents top 3 in 2A, but after that they need serious help from their 4-5 runners, that run in the low 18's. There's also a huge drop off between 5 and 6. But if their 4 and 5 runners have good days at the State Meet, they are a threat for the title.

5. (5) Lake Highland Prep HS = Lake highland has a 37 second 1-5 split and their #6 is only 20 seconds off their #5.

6. (6) Mater Lakes Academy HS = Mater Lakes just won the Spanish River Invite and look impressive in the process. They have a very strong top 4 runners and solid depth all the way through 7. If 5-6-7 can catch up to their #4, then they have a shot at the podium.

7. (7) South Walton recently finished runner up to North Bay haven by only 1 point at the Buccaneer Bash, but it looks like they were missing a couple runner. When at full strength, they should be a top 10 team.

8. (8) Calvary Christian (Clearwater) = Calvary looks good but there is an almost 2 minute gap between their 4 and 5 runners. They will need their #5 to show up big in November to get a top 10 finish.

9. (9) Montverde Academy = They have one of the top runners in 2A in Riley Novack and a solid #2. But like most teams on this list, they lack depth.

10. (10) Astronaut HS = Astronaut does not have a low stick on their team, but they have great depth by having a 44 second 1-5 split.

Other teams to watch out for:

Bishop Moore HS

The King's Academy

Ransom Everglades School

Pine Crest HS

North Bay Haven

Individual Rankings:

Commentary: Same as above. Not all courses are the same. Head-to-head competition is heavily weighted. Lets ride!

Rank. (Previous Rank) Name, Grade -- School = Comments

1. (1) Aidan Ryan 12 -- Bolled HS = Aidan is the top XC returned from last year. He is also the 1600 and 3200 champion from outdoor. I don't know his full situation, but it seems like he's running his way back from something. Assuming he's healthy by the State meet, he's probably the guy to beat.

2. (2) Riley Novack 12 -- Montverde Academy = Riley has the 3rd fastest time in the state, it's by a very slim margin. He should be able to compete for the title come November.

3. (3) Colton Lawson 12 -- Kings Academy = Colton just beat #4 on this list at the Spanish River invite. He finished 8th at the State meet last year and he's a threat to the title.

4. (4) David "Chuli" Serra 11 -- Ransom Everglades = My dark horse champion for this year. Chuli is running cross country for the first time and is putting up some amazing times against some great competition. Once he figures out how to race, the sky is the limit for this kid.

5. (5) Kirin Karver 12 -- Berkley Prep HS = Kirin is another that has a shot at the individual title. He finished 5th last year and has already run 10 seconds within his PR form last year. Look for him to be in the lead pack at the State meet.

6. (6) Liam Jordan 10 -- Berkley Prep HS = Part of Berkley's 1-2 punch, Liam is off to a great start this season, already PR'ing in twice this season.

7. (7) Andrew McGraw 12 -- Bolles HS = Andrew is off to a great start this season running as Bolles #1 so far. He's a bit back from the top 6, but he might contend as the season goes on.

8. (8) Luis Gutierrez 12 -- West Florida Tech -- Luis is off to a great start this season sporting a 2nd place finish at Bale n Trail last week.

9. (9) Juan Pablo Castillo-Zima 10 -- Bishop Kenny HS -- Ran a life time best of 16:11 last week at the Adidas XC Challenge.

10. (10) Nicholas Colbert 12 -- Jensen Beach HS = He has a PR of 16:19 and has won every race he has entered.

Other individuals to watch out for:

Dylan Nolan -- Clearwater Central Catholic (fastest time in 2A, but it was in a race everyone PR'd by a minute)

Christopher Joost -- Bolles HS

Jeshua Osorio -- Mater Lakes Academy

Daniel Demonte -- Bolles HS

Justin Cannata -- Jensen Beach HS

Storm Webber -- Berkley Prep HS

Sean Perry -- Lemon Bay HS

Isaac Cerveny -- Cocoa Beach HS

Matthew Matson -- North Bay Haven

Josh Davis -- Calvary Christian (Clearwater)

3A Boys Rankings

Team Rankings:

Commentary: The boy's team title is all but a lock for Belen Jesuit yet again with 16 boys under 17 minutes, only 5 of which are seniors, and none of the seniors in the top 7. They will be tough to beat for years to come. The fight is for 2nd place. Many of the teams faced off against each other with Fleming Island and Satellite trading off close races this season and Ft. Myers, Naples, and Cape Coral all in the same district also trading off every week its going to be a battle to see who can show up on that fateful day in November to join Belen on the podium. Though I have them Ranked 3rd currently Ft. Myers is the only team in the top 10 with a sub 60s second 1-5 spread which may be the biggest advantage for them to repeat on the podium. Satellite is never to be slept on though as they venture into 3A and try to take a podium spot in their first year.

4A Boys Rankings

Team Rankings:

Commentary: Creekside has been dominant so far this year as the #2 team in the entire state. They lost the title last year on a tie-breaker and plan to not let anyone be close enough this year to challenge, but appear to have 6th man problems should a team get close. Sunlake newly to 4A and a perennially 3A powerhouse have not missed a beat jumping into 4A. Coach Reeves and his boys have their work cut out for them with Creekside though. Niceville, Columbus, and Nease are all in the mix to let Sunlake know they are the perennials of 4A and will not go quietly. That 2nd Podium spot is up for grabs by any of the 2-5 teams.

They are just for fun and should not have a lot of weight put on them. But if there is a concern, such as a missed athlete or team, please email the individual pollster for your classification & gender.
