Boys Virtual Meet Preview - Girls Virtual Meet Preview
Virtual meet projections for the Great Miami Athletic Conference (GMAC) Championships to be held on Friday, September 23rd at Larry & Penny Thompson Park in Miami. MileSplit.com will be on-site with race video and photo coverage.
The Christopher Columbus should be heavily favored to win the boys team competition and should grab many of the top places individually with an entire top 5 who all went under 17 minutes at the Spanish River Invitational led by Alejandro Romagosa with a 16:07 PR.
The junior Romagaso should be a favorite to win the GMAC title, but Coral Reef senior Ryan Sarafoglu was just six seconds behind him at Spanish River with a 16:13 season best and is a returning All-State runner in 4A. Romagaso was the runner-up last year's GMAC Championships.
Braddock is slated to race this weekend and Saturday night at the Katie Caples Invitational in Jacksonville, so will be interesting what lineup they put on the course on Friday afternoon at GMAC Championships as they would be the runaway favorites for the girls team title as well as individual favorite in Annabella Cardona otherwise.
If Braddock is missing from GMAC with their top runners, watch out for Miami Palmetto sophomore Michaela Thompson, who was a top 10 finisher in the 4A race at Spanish River with a 20:11 PR.
Next fastest entrants who were sub 20:30 at Spanish River last week to challenge Thompson would be Coral Reef senior Samantha Ruiz (20:22) and Coral Gables sophomore Isabella Morales (20:29).
Ruiz and Morales would also be leading the top contending teams at GMAC Championships if Braddock is absent between Coral Reef and Coral Gables as well as Miami Sunset would have to be in the mix to win the team title as well.
