Details On 25th Annual FACA Senior All-Star Classic

Girls field at starting line of 2021 FACA Senior All-Star Classic

By: Ray H Romero III - FACA Chair and Dunbar HS Coach

For those that may not know this is the 25th year that FACA has had an All-Star event for Cross Country. The first one was held in 1997 in Daytona.  This race is near and dear to my heart as I was on the west team that year coached by the Legendary Coach Bobby Ennis of Leto.

The event was the brainchild of Rick Rothman the FACA Cross Chairman at the time.  It was memorable to me for so many reasons, and when I was asked to be the coach of the West team for the first time in 2011 it was me coming for circle or so I thought at the time.  To date I had been the only athlete who competed in the event to return and coach.  Now I have taken the coaching back seat and am trying to fill the shoes of coaches and friends Rick Rothman, Mike Boza, Kristin McWilliams, Bonnie Fleming.

My first order of business was to find the coaches this year we have some outstanding coaches who have seen great success.  Its funny because one of the coaches Brandon Williams, South Girls Coach, joins me as a former athlete in the event to become a coach.  I was so excited to hear him tell me he ran in the event in 2015 and was honored to be selected.  I will list all of the coaches below after I get of my soapbox.

My main purpose in writing this is to hopefully reach some of the top Senior athletes and ask them to declare for the event as it is a fun time and very competitive.  This will be a new course at Holloway Park this year, very viewer friendly and faster.

To increase the atmosphere of the event Brandon Miles is having "The Future Stars of Fall XC" (link to register) to all grades on the same course just before the FACA Main event begins.  One last chance for everyone that made or didn't make the State Finals to get a PR. Then they can all stick around and cheer for the outgoing Senior All-Stars we have been watching for the last few years.

So if you are on or have been listed at one point this year on the "Watch List" please have your coach go to the link below and show your intent to be in the pool of potential athletes.  Hope to see you running or spectating November 12th at Holloway Park.
