McKenzie Travis, a junior at Evangelical Christian School in Fort Myers, ran the nation's fastest wind-legal time in the girls 100 meter dash on Saturday at the Loretta Purish Invitational hosted by North Fort Myers High School. Travis clocked a new personal best time of 11.68 while running into a -1.6 meters/second headwind. Her previous personal best of 11.71 was a wind-aided runner-up performance in last May's FHSAA 2A State Track Championships.

Travis also doubled back to win the 200 meter dash in an outdoor personal best of 24.27, while she actually ran faster indoors a few weeks ago to win the Florida Indoor Championships title in the event with a sub 24 clocking at 23.97.

One of the other featured races of the day was the girls 3200 meter run with two of the top distance runners in Southwest Florida renewing their rivalry once again with Evangelical Christian senior Ava Povich (1st, 11:01) able to pull away from Bishop Verot sophomore Mackenzie De Lisle (2nd, 11:12) for a 11 second margin of victory. Povich was also an indoor state champion two weeks ago at the Florida Indoor Championships in 3K and last week opened her outdoor season with a sub 11 minute performance in the 3200 at the Dunbar Tiger Classic.
