The Miami Southridge girls made history on Saturday at the Florida Relays as they became the first 4x100 meter relay team in Florida high school history to break 45 seconds in the event.
In a thrilling race with national powerhouse program Bullis School of Maryland, the state and national leaders coming into the event in Southridge finished runner-up in the finals to Bullis but with a time that has never been seen ever before in this state.
With a lineup that includes two special individuals in Cynteria James and Somiyah Braggs with season best 100 meter times of 11.50 and 11.59 respectively, Southridge has two stars that really can run down the competition and separate from them as well on both straightaways with their second and anchor legs.
The Southridge girls broke the Florida high school state record in the 4x100 meter relay as the first ever to break 45 seconds in the event with their time of 44.94 to finish second to Bullis, who won in a US No. 5 effort of 44.67.
Southridge's performance meanwhile ranks them 13th fastest all-time In U.S. high school history, while breaking the Florida high school state record of 45.20 previously held by the 2017 Miami Northwestern squad at the state meet.
The 45.20 time by Northwestern six years ago will be the FHSAA state meet record time that the Southridge girls will be chasing to best again in May at University of North Florida for the state championships.
