Mackenzie Roy Shatters Girl's Course Record at New World

GIRLS RECAP

The weather cooperated and the young men and women picked em' up and put em' down at the New World Fall Spectacular.  The cool temperatures saw Spruce Creek Senior Mackenzie Roy shatter the course record of 17:41.20 set in 2023 by Jillian Candelino of Bolles.  In one of the best races of the year, Roy, Jr. Alyson Johnson of Creekside and North Haven Sr. Margaret Bartlow battled over the last 200m, with Jr. Eliana Black of Cambridge just back of them.   Roy had the best finish today and led all four girls under the course record. Bartlow was 2nd in 17:19 and I owe an apology to Miss Bartlow.  I missed mentioning her in my preview of the race.  Johnson was 3rd in 17:23 and Black 4th in 17:33.

Just before the halfway point, Roy leads Bartlow (left), Johnson (right) and Black (far left) and Sydney Johnson (back right).

The race also saw an additional 5 girls go sub-18:00:

5  Jr. Jazlyn Forbes of Oasis 17:44.

6  Fr. Sydney Johnson 17:49.

7  Fr.  Mary Summers of Seven Rivers Christian Academy 17:52

8  Sr. Arianna Roy of Spruce Creek 17:55.

9 Sr. Grace Aldrich of the Carrolton School of the Sacred Heart 17:57.

10  Jr. Rhyen Foley of East Ridge 18:00.

Creekside, led by the Johnson sisters, won the team title with 84 points taking down second place Bishop Kenny who scored 163 and Ponte Vedra who went 169.  Creekside demonstrated that they are one of the better teams in the state and the team to beat in 4A.  Creekside's potential, as mentioned in the race preview, got the shot in the am that it needed when Jr. Sarah Rose ran 1:02 faster than her 19:37 season-best time.  Rose finished 14th overall with an 18:31.  Creekside's #4 & 5 scorers were Fr. Hadleigh Roberts who was 30th in 18:58 and So. Emily Kate Longmire who was 34 in 19:06.

BOYS RECAP

The boy's race was won by Belen Jesuit who scored just 28 points going 1+4+6+7+10.  Belen was led by So. Marcelo Mantecon who won the race as expected in 14:49.

I thought we might see three boys go sub-15 and it was close.  2nd place went to Buchholz Sr. Gino Palazzolo in 15:01 and 3rd to his teammate Jr. Demetrie Meyers who ran 15:02, leading Buchholz to a 2nd place in the team title.   Gulf Breeze So. Andrew Beroset was 4th in 15:08.  5th went to Belen's Tiago Socarras in 15:14.
