Panhandle Cross Country Championship

The final area race of the regular season provided an opportunity for the girls' and boys' Big Bend honor roll leaders to confirm their dominance.

Maclay's Adriana Piekarewicz and Chiles' Johnathan Blocker both loitered in the lead packs of their respective races for over 2 miles before surging away in the final minutes. Blocker finishes the regular season undefeated by area runners.

Maclay's girls rebounded from their two-point loss to Chiles at last week's City Championships, slipping past the Timberwolves by just one point, on the strength of a 40-second personal best by Elena Villa. While Pensacola Washington ruled the day with five scorers in the top seven, Chiles' Matt Dixon and Kevin Lane finished in the top fifteen to help the Timberwolves to a strong second-place showing among nineteen teams.
