Belen Jesuit's Marcelo Mantecon finished 4th at the Nike Cross Nationals over the weekend. The junior hung in tough on the sloppy Glendoveer Golf Course in Portland, OR, finishing in 15:05.60, just 4.5 seconds off of senior Jackson Spencer of Harriman (UT), who got the win in 15:01.10. Mantecon capped off an outstanding junior year that included setting a new Florida Boys All-Time record XC 5K time of 14:33.00 at the New World Fall Spectacular.
Mantecon, tucked in between senior Sean Fries of Minnetonka High School (AZ) and junior Yohanes Van Meerten of Flagstaff High School (AZ). Van Meerten finished 2nd in 15:03.30. Fries was 7th in 15:17.00.
