Most Florida college athletes ran their last in-state indoor meet of the season, while high school distance runners got their annual preseason showdown, at the Gator Indoor Invitational on Sunday.
Pope John Paul senior Nicole Schappert finished three seconds up on Kelly Parrish, winning with a converted 1600 time of 4:55.26. They boys race was a nail-biter with Justin Taylor coming out ahead of recent UF commitment Jeremey Criscione. Taylor came through with a converted time of 4:17.02.
The college division saw many great performances as always. Some of the most impressive womens performances included Tiandra Ponteen\'s (UF) 52.31 400 meters, Lacy Janson\'s (FSU) 14-1 pole vault, Kimberli Barrett\'s (UM) 59-1 shot put, and a 3:38 4x4 relay from the University of Miami.
The men had some great performances as well, among the bests: Kerron Clement\'s (UF) 46.13 400 meters, Rafeeq Curry\'s (FSU) 51-00.50 triple jump, and Andy Diakos (FSU) 63-3 weight throw.
There is one more indoor meet to be held in March at Gainesville this year, which will be the fast times qualifier. That meet is largely for athletes trying to get one last chance at hitting a NCAA nationals qualifying performance.
