As we roll into Week 6 of the 2026 Florida outdoor track & field season, Florida's T&F depth is on display. The state is already showcasing its next generation of talent. Several middle school athletes are currently ranked in the U.S. national rankings in their class. Gibbs, Plummer, McCoy, and Gayle are four of the best. They are our FUTURE STARS.
Bobbie Gibbs is one of the top 7th-grade middle school boys in the nation.
#1 U.S. 200m: 23.30 Oakleaf Junior High Meet - Feb 26, 2026
#5 U.S. - 100m: 11.38 Orange Park JH Meet #1 - Mar 5, 2026
#5 U.S. - 400m: 54.31 Green Cove Springs JH Tri-Meet - Mar 10, 2026
Watch for Plummer as he progresses this season and at the next level. A sub-30 200m over the hurdles shows good speed and hurdle technique.
#2 U.S. - 200mH: 28.31 North Florida Youth Track League Series #3 - Jacksonville, FL
Watch for McCoy this spring. She also has a 59.79 400m that is U.S. No. 11 at this time.
U.S. #2 - 200m: 25.50 Miami-Dade MS / K-8 Championship Feb 7, 2026
Gayle was the FLYRA Middle School State Track and Field Championship 200mH state champion last spring with a 29.11. She is a versatile runner having run the 400m (1:00.12), 800m (2:23.25), 100mH (16.05), and the 400mH (1:05.51) already this spring. As a 7th grader, she placed 7th in the 1A FHSAA Outdoor State Finals last spring in 1:05.47.
