Danielle Dorfman, 10th grade runner and founder of Running Friends Forever organization announced today that two, $500 scholarships are available to a female and male HS senior runner who excel at running, scholastics and at life and plan to run for their college team. Recipients will be selected by a panel of area running experts and announced on May 15.

Running Friends Forever Foundation's 3rd Annual Scholarship Program will select candidates who demonstrate their excellence and leadership in running, academics and community and their need for financial aid in order to pursue a college running career. Previous winners include: Jose Garcia and Javier Cruz, Belen Jesuit graduates, Katherine Cardenas of Coral Reef HS, Katherine Harris, Central High graduate and Samantha Postigo of Sunset High. All winners received $500 and a beautiful trophy donated by Ransom Everglades' Running Coach Kappelman.

Danielle feels "blessed that this kind donation from a local community leader and marathon runner will help these runner's dreams come true." This kind of generosity enables her group to provide a full range of goods and services such as running gear and seminars to elementary through high school athletes.

Since 2002, Danielle has provided goods and funds to the Little River Elementary School running team, Catholic Charities Racing Team, St. Francis Xavier School in Overtown and other groups located as far off as St. Lucia in the Caribbean. Danielle recently received corporate sponsorship from Adidas, Hind Team Sport, Energice sports fluid and recovery formulas to provide new team uniforms, sneakers and fluids for more than 80 members of the Charlotte/Port Charlotte High School running teams who lost their team uniforms to Hurricane Charley last fall.

Danielle, a top distance runner from Miami, Florida, competitor since age 7; age group winner of many local 5k, 5 mile and 10K races including The Key Biscayne Lighthouse 10K and age group champion for the ESM Florida and Georgia Publix Summer Running Series is not alone in her desire to share her passion for running and compassion for our community and the running world. Her brother Joseph, a 14-year-old runner collects books for each mile he runs and donates the books to underprivileged kids and schools.
