FACA Pollster's Official XC Pre-District Rankings!

Coach Raposo Note: Sorry for the one-day delay in the rankings. I've been getting my computer at home fixed and the article editor isn’t compatible with my school computers. So I haven't been able to access all of the information to piece everything together until now.

Other than that, enjoy the rankings and good luck at your respective District Championships!!

2A Girls Rankings:

By: Gerry Spring Lake Highland Prep - gspring@lhps.org

Commentary: District time is upon us! Good luck to all teams and individuals as they begin the state series. The big news that I have received is that AHN has lost another runner for the season. The 5th ranked team loses what had been their number 2 -looks like they will be ok at districts but beyond  that who knows. Another observation is that Bolles continues to improve as always and will be a major player at the Ranch in a few weeks time. Stay healthy and run fast.

Commentary: After the Pre-state Invitational most teams have gone into a lull period and are resting many of their athletes in preparation for the state series. Many of the Conference, County and City Championships have passed pretty uneventfully and many teams and individuals are coasting through before the big show starts. That being said, take the individual rankings with a grain of salt and once the District Championships come around everything should start coming together looking towards the final picture at the State Meet.

Commentary: It is finally post season time and we can end all the speculation about fast times on short courses and who should be ranked where. Line up and race fast enough to race again the following week! Trinity Prep and Holy Trinity are so far out front of everyone else in 1A the only real question to me is how many runners can they place in the Top10? Maclay and PKY will fight for spots 3-4 and then there are 5 teams who could end up 5th on Nov. 20th.

Wrap Up: I did the individual rankings solely on PRs from the database excluding 1 outlier that was brought to my attention by the coach. These mean nothing since many runners will be going forward and many will begin to backslide a bit. Many teams have the luxory of cruising through their districts and regions while others have to really " spill the tank " just to live to race again. Good luck to everyone competing this week at districts.

Commentary:  The District bell has finally rung and it can't get anymore exciting then some rough and tumble state series battles between district foe this weekend.  The sparring has ended, the gloves are on, and round one is here.  Although some battles will be tougher than others (like 3A District 1-The District of Demise), and some teams may get knocked out, there is no reason to throw in the towel before the races have been run....Let's get ready to RUMBLE!

Team Rankings:

Team Name, Region -

(Prev.)

 Comments:

1.

CHARLOTTE  (PUNTA GORDA)  # 1 REGION 3

(1)

Not much has changed since last week, The Tarps are still swimming strong and have "spawned" quite the target on their back heading into District weekend.  No worries for Megalops here, even with the mysterious absence of Cardillo last week, these fish are fresh. The only fight in their district will come from the Naples Eagles who are hovering close overhead, but the Tarps find it is an easy swim downstream to the finish to secure the district title.

2.

BELEN JESUIT (MIAMI) # 1 REGION 4

(2)

District 8 should be called District BELEN because that is all you will see at the finish of this race.  The only chance to break up the Perfecta-Perfecta (where the whole Varsity squad finishes in the Top 7) is a young Jaguar from Pembroke Pines.  Other than that, it is a Wolverine party and no one else is invited.

3.

LEON (TALLAHASSEE) # 1 REGION 1

(3)

I like the Lions in this epic District 1 battle for one “mane” reason, McMahon and Stafford are gladiator killers.  And with such a close fight between the Top 4 teams in this district it most certainly will come down to the #5 and #6 tom cats in the back of the pride.  Leon’s depth keeps the lions immune to this district’s toxicity and earns them a #3 ranking this week.

4.

BOOKER T. WASHINGTON (PENSACOLA)# 2 REGION 1

(4)

The Wildcats will no doubt use their 4th spot ranking as “catnip” to instill some excitement into the bunch heading into a district battle with Leon.  The thing that scares me most is that I don’t think Edwards is ready to leave the litter yet.  Bordelon and Arnold will have a dozen guys swatting at their tails in the chase for the middle.  If Booker can land on their feet after the pressured pursuit, these kitties will be the new King Felines.

5.

WIREGRASS RANCH (WESLEY CHAPEL)  # 1 REGION 2

(7)

They're the new "bullies" on the block and all of the other teams have to play matador to try and stop this squad from picking up steam.  There's only one problem…its too late.  Wiregrass has sharpened their horns this past week in preparation to trample through their district.  Reilly has found the hooves of a frontrunner and now that Pulsifer, Hippley, and Bireda have realized how green the grass is on the other side of the fence...these "Bulls are Running" for a Top 3 at State!

6.

NICEVILLE (NICEVILLE) #3 REGION 1

(8)

I know this may be the prediction of a Dodo, but this group could definitely grasp one of the TOP 2 spots in their district and when all is said and done may glide to a TOP 3 finish at State.   It may be a "bird-brained" idea, but then again this convocation has been running out of their minds lately.  With newly found front runners in Howell and Riggs, the rest of the raptors are flying close.  Its “life in the fast lane” from here on out for the Niceville Eagles.

7.

FORT WALTON  BEACH (FT. WALTON BCH) # 4 REGION 1

(5)

Its not "good night Jim-Bob" just yet for this Walton crew…there's still plenty of time for these Vikings to make up ground and Fight their Way Back into the Top 5.  Having their Top 7 capable of breaking 16:30 makes it just a little easier and gives them some depth in the District of Demise.  Dearmon and Ammons bring the strength of a Walton mountain to the country of Little Everglades...John Boy stays awake a little longer to see how this one will finish.

8.

NAPLES (NAPLES) # 2 REGION 3

(6)

Its no "fools gold" for these lustrous Eagles.  Buddy and Jovanie have Naples shinning bright in the TOP 10 with the "Swing Man" providing a well established fulcrum.  The future of these birds rests with their #4 and #5 who have to go sub 17 if they want the scales to tilt in their favor.  The Golden Eagles have to have a 24 karat performance from the whole team if they want to snag the Tarps in District 6.

9.

BARTRAM TRAIL (ST. JOHNS) #5 REGION 1

(10)

The Trail gutted the St. Johns Conference with a "grizzly" win over powerhouse BK this past weekend, but their 3, 4, 5 can't hibernate come Regions if they want a run at State.  If Leo and Carver can pull the rest of the bears into the low 16's it will be "Bad News" for the rest of 3A.

10.

FT. MYERS (FT. MYERS) #3 REGION 3

(9)

Bautista and "Ace" have to match Martinez and Swingley if Tsunami Sam hopes to make it a natural disaster for Naples in District 6.  The wave could get bigger if Skip can hold on to Cardillo and Schnulle in the end..."Surfs Up Stafford!".  From my perspective the forecast for Naples is cloudy with a chance of rain, but then again I'm no meteorologist.

11.

CREEKSIDE (ST. JOHNS) # 6 REGION 1

(11)

12.

CHILES (TALLAHASSEE)  #7 REGION 1, OUT OF STATE CHAMP.

(12)

13.

LINCOLN (TALLAHASSEE) # 8 REGION 1, OUT OF STATE CHAMP.

14.

LAND O LAKES (LAND O LAKES) # 2 REGION 2

15.

OVIEDO (OVIEDO) # 3 REGION 2

(15)

16.

PALMETTO RIDGE (NAPLES) #4 REGION 3

(16)

(15)

19.

MARTIN COUNTY (STUART) #3 REGION 4

NAVARRE (NAVARRE) # 8 REGION 1, OUT OF STATE CHAMP.

Individual Rankings: The individual rankings this week are based on the predicted winner and runner-up for each district.  Hopefully this doesn't enrage the masses too much…just sit back, relax, and enjoy these "harrier" chill pills.

Athlete Name, Grade – Team

(Prev.)

 Time, Comments:

1.

Riley Doherty (LEON)

District 1

The District of Demise is going to be a battle up front, but this "lion" dawns the "wardrobe" to wear out the competition…so "which" one of the front-runners wins in the end?... Riley edges the pack by a whisker.

2.

Thomas Howell (NICEVILLE)

District 1

It seemed just like yesterday this young eaglet hatched a 16:52 to start the season.  Now Howell has shed his down and is a "Big Bird" ready to secure a runner up finish.

1

Jimmy Clark (CREEKSIDE)

District 2

Winning the District 2 Championship for Clark is like Superman going bowling, its fun for a couple of hours, but when the game is over, its no big feat.  Jimmy's powers are more useful for the races that lie ahead...Clark makes District 2 look "comical" with a landslide victory.

2

Kamal Korso (TERRY PARKER)

District 2

In Arabic Kamal means "Perfection", unfortunately for Korso there will be one major flaw in his finish…it will be second.  "K squared" runs a super race at sub 16 only its not "super" enough.

1

Josh Reilly (WIREGRASS RANCH)

District 3

Reilly is peaking at the right time and has "beefed" up his confidence.  Josh "steers" himself to victory with the sweet smell of citrus at his heels.

2

Timothy Wenger (CITRUS)

District 3

Wenger's season has been sweet and sour this year, but don't let his last race fool you, he has the talent to run with Reilly in the end, hopefully it doesn't come up lemons.

1

Alex Foss (GEORGE JENKINS)

District 4

"Louie, Louie…oh no, me gotta go" Foss has Louie the Eagle flying high and there's only one place to land…on a District Championship.  Alex takes individual and team accolades this weekend, this Robot is charged and ready.

2

Jose Perez (HAINES CITY)

District 4

There is "A way…Jose".  If Perez can keep within buzzing distance of Foss, there is the possibility he could apply the sting at the end.  This Haines City hornet lacks a hive, but could cause a swarm of his own in District 4.

1

Jake Mocase (LEMON BAY)

District 5

Mocase will be pushed by a pack of 4 the whole way, but Jake knows what to do if life gives you Lemons….win the race!  Although its tough to beat a teammate at the end, the sweet victory of a team Championship can change a pucker into a smile.

2

James Kieck (LEMON BAY)

District 5

LP is the number two "punch" that will be served up in District 5 for the Rays.  James is able to out "kieck" Largo's Lewis  in the end and squeeze out a District Championship for The Bay.

1

Tyler Cardillo (CHARLOTTE)

District 6

There is only fish on the menu in District 6 and for "The Dark Horse" individual honors are just a side dish to a team Championship.  Cardillo cruises to victory by 10 links over Schnulle.

2

Ryan Schnulle (CHARLOTTE)

District 6

If Cardillo is the dark horse, Schnulle is the pale 'stang of the Charlotte stable.  Although death may not ride with him a heavy dose of pain is in store for the rest of District 6.

1

Will Bridges (EDGEWATER)

District 7

3A District 7 is the race I would pay to see.  There will be a group of 5 guys who legitimately have a shot at winning, but I have to go with "Big Willie" style.  Bridges "suspends" all disbelief and takes the district title.

2

Quincy O' Connor (CELEBRATION)

District 7

Its been some time since the departure of Blaney, but Q-Dog has put Celebration back on the map.  This dog is loose and ready to rule the neighborhood, unfortunately his leash is 3 links to short.  O' Connor settles for Beta to Bridges Alpha in District 7.

1

Elliot Clemente (BELEN JESUIT)

District 8

Clemente will lead a band of rabid wolverines in the conquest to go perfect in District 8.  Nothing really stopping Elliot from the win except for his teammate and Clemente's not feeling that generous…he's the real wolverine is this "superpower"ed squad.

2

Joseph Lindsay (BELEN JESUIT)

District 8

Lindsay would be the top banana if he was on any other team, the only way he wins the district title is if Clemente "slips" up.  Keep your eyes "peeled" for a 1-2-3-4-5-6-7 finish by Belen.
