Trinity Prep's Gousse Questionable For State

There is potential bad news for Trinity Prep’s boys cross country team and their quest for back-to-back state titles. Junior Ryan Gousse has informed flrunners.com that he has a nagging injury that could sideline him for Saturday’s state title.

“I found out Tuesday that I strained my groin.” I ran yesterday and it got worse so I didn’t run today and I won’t again till Saturday.”

A doctor gave Gousse clearance to run on it but he is playing it cautiously. He thinks the injury occurred during last Saturday’s regional championships.

“He said I can run on it, it's just going to hurt really bad and yeah I think I hurt it then. I was just sore and it just gradually came on Saturday night and Sunday.”

Ever the optimist, Gousse is doing everything he can to get better but knows that a week might not be enough time.

“They said it won’t get better till I stop running for a week. So it won’t really get better till after the season. They gave me some pills and I’ve been doing rehab, icing, and electric stimulation.

After a one point loss to Holy Trinity for the regional title, Gousse’s injury could mean the difference in a team championship or a runner-up trophy. He knows the importance of his role on the Saint’s squad.

“It would be very very hard for us to win states without me and I feel very confident that I can run hard Saturday and recover by Southeast (Nike Southeast).”
