Outdoor track is here! Florida Highlights for Week One 2011

Embry-Riddle Last Chance

This is a college meet that is a last chance at hitting NCAA or NAIA indoor national qualifying times. However, a number of high schoolers jumped in.

Coverage

Highlights

  • Tyler Cue of Flagler Palm Coast showed that he is not only going to be a force in the state, but also on the national level. He beat the collegiate field with a blazing 21.01!  He also took second place in the 60 meter dash in 6.85.  Teammate Gilbert Absolu also ran an impressive 21.93 for fourth place. There was no wind guage at that 200, but reports say that it was definitely under 2.0 so it should be considered legal.

  • Jose Santana of East River ran a 50.68 for fifth place in the 400, the first high school finisher.
  • The Jones girls ran a 4:12.66 in the 4x4, which was good enough for third place and the first team made up of high schoolers.

I have to add that on a personal note, having watched both of those girls growing up running since the third grade, it's hard to believe that White and Eaves are now sophomores and juniors, respectively!!!!  Eaves was also third in the 1600 (5:44.09). White added a high jump victory in 4-8 for good measure.
  • Kelly Fahey of Trinity Prep took second in both the 800 (2:33.05) and 1600 (5:26.05).
