Celebration senior Tyler Osorio always dreamed of being a D-1 athlete. Recently those dreams came true when he signed to run for the University of Florida.
“They were my first track offer. I was all football going into high school and trying to get recruited for football and track at the same time and looking at places where I can do both. I also had FSU but Florida just stuck out because they are a great academic school and I felt a really great connection with Coach Holloway and Coach Welty.”
During a recent trip to Gainesville for the Florida Relays he got to experience Percy Beard Track first hand. Those facilities combined with the ability to be pushed by top tier athletes, and Florida’s success sold Osorio on the Gators. In his senior season, he has posted the fourth best 400 meter time in Florida (47.74), the fifth fastest 300 hurdle time (37.80), and a 10.80 in the 100. He says that UF likes him, “as a multi’s guy and in the decathlon”, and he can’t wait to get to Gainesville.
“I met the team and saw the dorms, and when I got a feel of what the field was like I really liked everything about it. That’s when I knew for sure that’s where I wanted to go.”
