Winter Park senior Nick Posada’s postseason dreams came to a halt last night capping off an impressive high school career for the Wildcats. Posada was a member of the 4x800 relay team that just missed making the state championship coming in fifth and finished seventh in the 3200.
“I ran my butt off and trained my butt off but I don’t know I just didn’t have it this week. I got all my PR’s down and I’m planning on running in Golden South and New Balance Outdoor Nationals. It’s going to be a sad ending but I should be fine.”
The Winter Park senior plans on taking some time off to let his body recover but then it is right back to work. He has big plans for the postseason.
“I really want to win nationals for steeplechase. That is the goal but if I don’t win 5:50 would be nice for the 2k.”
With one chapter ending a new one is also beginning for Posada. Born in Detroit, he recently committed to the University of Michigan. He says he was also considering West Point but as a fan of the University of Michigan since he was eight years old it was hard to turn down the maize and blue.
“I was born there and I have seven or eight uncles and aunts who live in Michigan and just a big Michigan family. When I went up there it was just perfect for me so I guess that was it.”
He says he isn’t looking forward to the cold weathers but can’t wait for the college experience.
“I went up last weekend and it was snowing in April so that is going to be rough. I’m more excited for the 3k though because they have a great tradition of steeplechasers and I think I’m going to do fantastic there.”
