Winter Park senior Kira Soderstrom has showcased her running skills on the track and cross country course the last four years, but who knew she was a poet as well. See some of her latest work in which she writes about her love for track and field and her thoughts on the state championship meet.
A poem about what I love written by me for everyone who shares my passion

It is a race of your heart, mind, and soul
Those who don't do it don't understand
The dedication it takes to reach your goal
When the day finally comes
All you can give is your best
All the hard work and effort is done
Now you just wait for the final test
Your spikes lead the way onto the track
His finger is on the gun
Your heart has already started the race
Before it has even begun
The outcome can be harsh or light
But what you think of it makes it so
Just remember that there are no regrets
And when the gun goes off, you go
Track States 2011- 7th in the mile and 3rd in the two mile

They talk about those who won it
But let them not soon forget that there were those
Who were fortunate enough to run it
The way I see it- the race is over now
Thoughts of other possible outcomes are forbidden
Life is funny because it always continues on
And the past can't ever be rewritten
So I want to thank you for your support
And for those of you who believed in me
When I crossed the line with no gold last night
It was your love that lifted my eyes to see

My talent cannot be based solely on one race
People have their ups and downs
And that is how they learn to control their pace
Who says that I didn't win
Because gold didn't lace my neck?
Does it make me a loser
Because my race panned out like a wreck?
No matter what happened I was led to believe
That I was already a star
No matter what the official says
I have proven that I could make it this far
I would hate to be ironic
Because those who won it, won it
But they are not the only champions
Since I was able to run it
