Kermit Commits To Canes

Jones sprinter Levonte "Kermit" Whitfield wasted no time in making a college choice. The soon to be  junior will fulfill a lifelong dream of his and play football as well as run track at the University of Miami.

Whitfield finished his sophomore season with two gold medals at the 2A state championships. He won the 100 meters in a time of 10.69 and ran an anchor leg on the teams nationally ranked 4x100 meter relay team which also finished first. Whitfield was second to Clemson signee Sammy Watkins in the 200 with a personal best time of 21.35.

He will participate in the upcoming Golden South Classic along with his cousin Marvin Bracy. The two will go head to head in the 100 along with Alabama state champ Aaron Ernest.  Bracy and Whitfield will also run on an all star 4x100 relay team later in the day.

Before Levonte “Kermit” Whitfield got in the blocks for the 200 a Jones assistant coach asked him what his confidence level was. The Jones sophomore usually responds with 9-10 but thiOs time he had a different answer, a billion. Coach Fred Ray instantly knew Whitfield was ready for the big stage.
