Warrior of the Year: You Decide

Throughout the season we have picked our Warrior of the Week and now it is time to decide whose performances are worthy of  Warrior of the Year. We have chosen the top five girls and top five guys and left the final vote to the running community.  So log onto to our Facebook page and let us know what you think!


Boys  Final Five

Marvin Bracy (Junior @ Boone) - Bracy won the 4A state title in both the 100 (10.39) and 200 (21.24). His 10.28 posted at the FSU Relays at the end of March is the fastest time in the country in 2011. He will compete in the prestigous Dream 100 in New York City.

Armando Del Valle (Senior @ Miami Columbus) - The FSU bound senior capped off a stellar high school career with three gold medals at the 4A state meet. Del Valle used a powerful kick in the anchor leg of the 4x800 to bring it home for the win. Later in the day he came back with an impressive individual double in the 1600 (4:09.49) a new personal best, and a new season best 9:09.08 in the 3200. Both times are state bests.

Artie Burns (Sophomore @ Miami Northwestern) - Burns did not compete his freshman season, but showed he didn't take the year off in his sophomore campaign. Burns who has state he wants to go pro when he graduates won the 4A state championship in the 110 hurdles in a personal best 13.63. He finished second in the 300's with a mark of 37.31. Recently, the sophomore ran in the Caribbean Scholastic Invitational in Puerto Rico where he posted a US#1 time in the 400 hurdles of 51.89.

Justin Osking  (Senior @ John Carroll) -  Osking finally did what he had seeked out too the first three years of his high school career, win states in both the shot put and discus. His gold medal throw of 193-10 in the discus is the best in Florida in 2011. Recently, Osking was named Treasure Coast Boys Athlete of the Year.

Arman Hall  (Junior @ St. Thomas Aquinas) -  After being injured in the 200 Hall's state championship run might not have gone as he had hoped. However, the junior was able to hold off rival Hugh Graham Jr, to win the 400 in a personal best and US #1 time of 46.22. He got the best of Graham several times at that event as well as the 200 this year. Hall's best time in the 200 this year, 20.82 is the second best in the US this year. Aside from being one of the top individuals in the country he also anchored the team's 4x4 relay which battled Miami Northwestern for tops in the country several times this year.

Girls Final Five

Octavious Freeman (Senior @ Lake Wales) - Freeman capped off one of the most memorable careers in Florida history with  golds in the 2A State Championships. She won the 100 (11.77), 200 (23.64), long jump (18-10.5), and anchored the team's winning 4x100 relay. Freeman will take on the top high school sprinters in the country at the Adidas Dream 100 in New York City.

Robin Reynolds  (Junior @ Miami Jackson) - Reynolds picked up four golds at the 3A State Championships to bring her three year total to 11. She repeated in the 100 (11.67), 200 (23.95), 400 (53.91), and long jump (19-11). She recently won the Golden South Classic in the 400 with a time of 54.03. She set a new personal best in the prelims with a blazing 53.78. Reynolds will compete in the prestigous Dream 100 in New York City.

Lily Williams (Junior @ Chiles) - Williams dominated the distance scene winning the 3A State Championship in the 1600 (4:56.20) and 3200 (11:00.56). Her personal best time of 4:52.05 set at the Florida Relays was the number one time in Florida for 2011. Williams was named All Big Bend Track and Field Athlete of the Year.

Der'Renae Freeman (Junior @ West Orange) - Freeman won the 4A state title with a jump of 20-0.75. That mark is the best in Florida and third best in the country. She is one of only three jumpers in the nation to go over 20 feet.

Lindsey Enders (Senior @ Holy Trinity) - Enders vaulted a personal best 12-10 to win the 1A State Championship. That mark was the state record not just in 1A but across all four classes and was the fifth best vault in the nation. The senior, who is headed to Cornell in the fall,  also placed third in the 100  hurdles at the 1A state meet and anchored the 4x1 relay team to a silver medal. She recently won the prestigous Golden South Classic in 12-6 as well.

Voting will end Wednesday June 15th at noon and winners will be announced later that night.
