If a recent showing at the AAU Junior Olympic Games in New Orleans is any indication of things to come, then the future of South Florida runners is very bright. American Heritage seventh grader Daesha Rogers set a new age group record in the 800 with her time of 2:13.30. The class of 2017 star has a personal best of 2:11.36 in the two lapper. She won the 1500 meters as well.
Another middle schooler, 13 year old Amir Rasul of Miami, dominated in the sprints. Rasul broke both the 100 and 200 records in the sub-youth division with times of 11.15 and 22.54 respectively. Both of those marks were into a -1.3 headwind.
Also, in South Florida the Miami Gardens XPress Track Club boys team cleaned up the awards. They swept first through fourth in the open 400 (sub youth division), took home the 4x4 championship in a new age group record 3:28.35, and also won the 4x8. Watch out for the kids down south for years to come!

Central Florida had its own dream team. Florida Elite Track Club members Der'Renae Freeman, Shadaey Campbell, Atarah Clark, and Justice Donald brought home the gold medal in the 4x100 relay at the AAU Junior Olympic Games in New Orleans. The foursome won the young division in a time of 45.56. Norfolk Real Deal Track Club was the closest competitor more than four-tenths of a second back in 46.01
