Meet Summary
The South County Regional Park in Boca Raton was the site for the 2011 Palm Beach County Championships. Anderson Charles of John I. Leonard closed in on a personal best time of 15:52, but fell two seconds short. Charles posted a time of 15:54.78 which was fourteen seconds better than runner-up Ryan White of Park Vista. Fellow John I. Leonard runner Charlie Bengston finished third in 16:35.01. The team places their top four runners in the top eight to get the championship, but the gap between their five and seven runners could be problematic as the postseason progresses.
On the girls side there wasn't a ton of competition. Freshman Courteney Zboyan of Jupiter was crowned conference champion in a time of 19:46.95. Zboyan was the only female runner to break the twenty minute barrier. Michelle Howell of Seminole Ridge was second in 20:01.74. Kimberly Schmutz of Saint Andrews rounded out the top three. Jupiter won the team championship with a squad average of 21:18.10
Before the varsity races took place the junior varsity kids took the course, Sierra Cardenas of Spanish River won for the girls in a time of 23:31.83. Nina Wallick and Natalia Jimenez third and fourth place finishes led Dwyer to the team trophy. Kevin Gellet led a pack full of Park Vista runners crossing the line in 18:18.68 and giving his team an impressive sixteen point total.
