Rock Star Repeats
Bert "Hot Pants" Irigoyen defended his 2A state title winning in 15:57. The Ransom Everglades senior stayed with the lead pack for the first half a mile and then decided the pace was too slow. Irigoyen felt good and didn't hear footsteps until about a quarter mile left in the race when he heard people cheering. It didn't worry the experienced runner though. As he surged on the hill he looked over his shoulder and felt he had enough gas left in the tank for title number two. His plan to breakout early paid off last year at state, this year at regionals, and again in the 2011 2A State Championship.
Holding The Competition Ransom
It was a battle between Bishop Kenny and Ransom Everglades. At the two mile mark Kenny had their fifth runner inside Ransom's number four, but it's not how you start it's how you finish. Ransom Everglades placed four of their five runners in the top sixteen to win by nearly twenty points over runner-up Bishop Kenny. Their 16:48 team average was nearly seconds better than that of Bishop Kenny as well. Irigoyen led the way with teammate Billy Scola placing fifth. Following the meet the pair let their college intentions known to the public with Irigoyen hoping to enroll early at Brown University and Scola heading to Johns Hopkins.
