Celebration senior Quincy O'Connor has made his college decision. O'Connor who is originally from Buffalo, New York will head back to the Empire State and run for Fordham University. He says he chose the Rams the middle of last week over offers from a few Ivy League schools. and some smaller liberal arts schools. In the end Fordham was the best fit for O'Connor.
"There were a few reasons why I chose Fordham. First off it has a rich academic tradition, which was something that was incredibly important to me when I was choosing a school. I wanted to choose somewhere with challenging academics, along with athletics. Also, the school has a great athletic history. Coach Dewey has been there for over 30 years and has coached a ton of great athletes. Lastly, I really wanted to get back up north, and it worked out great that I'll end up in my home state."
The Celebration standout moved to Florida following his sophomore year and has been one of the top distance runners in Central Florida and throughout the state. He says going back to New York wasn't a huge factor in his college decision, but he definitely preferred the colder weather to the Florida heat. O'Connor finished 14th and 5th respectively at the Cross Country State Championships in 2010 and 2011. On the track he placed 7th in the 1600 and was a member of the Storm's 4x400 relay that made the state finals. Now that he knows where he is going to spend the next four years O'Connor plans to take full advantage of his final high school season.
"I am eagerly anticipating some competitive races and my final state meet."
