Burns Lights Up the Hurdles

Artie Burns flexed his muscle big time by laying the hammer down in both hurdles. He put up a 13.35 meet record and US #1 time in the 110 Hurdles, which came going into a -1.4 headwind and followed another sub 14 performance in the prelims. That wasn't enough though for the Miami Northwestern junior, he answered that by laying waste to the talented field again with a 36.14 in the 300 Intermediates.

The 110 hurdles is the best all-time in the state at the strict 110 Meter distance. Only Arthur Blake and Mike Roberson ever ran faster times, both at the 120 Yard Hurdles equivalent and Roberson's was a hand time. His 300 Hurdles time is fourth all-time behind Bershawn Jackson's 35.39 and a 35.3 hand time by Arthur Blake from 1984, and Artie's own time this year at Louie Bing.

  • Avery Lopez, the junior from Belen Jesuit, nothced the second fastest 1600 time in the state this season with a 4:18.72 that was enough to fight of Nicholas Palmero (4:20.01), Trevor Touchton (4:20.32), and teammate Francisco Tejidor (4:22.32).
  • Lake Brantley senior Otniel Teixeira was closed to his season best and state leading time with a 1:54.23 victory over Thomas Miller from Georgia (1:54.99) and Daniel Dey of Olympia (1:56.46)
  • Seventh grade sensation Daesha Rogers continued her dominance over older peers, with a 2:12.86 win. It was short of her season best and national leading 2:11.14, but enough to fend off Ferguson senior Natalie Concepcion's 2:13.66 challenge, which now is the state's second best time this year.
