Salute To Seniors: Taylor Buzzard - Chiles

What was your most memorable race?

My most memorable race was my last ever 1600. I ran my personal best at regionals getting 5th place by milliseconds with a 4:24.I will always remember that bittersweet moment.

What would you consider your biggest competition?

My biggest competition was and always will be myself. Trying to get motivated and stay focused is one of the hardest things as a runner. When things are going good there is no stopping you, but when you have a couple bad races it can be hard to stay positive.

Out of all of your high school accomplishments which stands out the most?

I think being the only person from my guys team to go to state in track my junior year was really my biggest accomplishment. I was able to continue our schools streak and represent the school all by myself which was an honor.

If you could do it all over again what would you change about your running career in high school?

If I did it over I think the only thing I would change would have been my mentality and always having a good time. It's all about having fun in the end and if your not doing that then it becomes stressful.

What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome?

I had to deal with a lot of sickness over the years, but I was very fortunate to not have many very big setbacks.

What will you miss the most?

I will definitely miss all the friends and teammates I had over my time in high school. Although I will have those in college, it won't really be the same.

Do you have any advice for younger athletes?

Some advice. Never ever say you can't do it. I promise you can. Everything takes time and you have to be patient. Take it day by day but most importantly enjoy it.

What are your college plans?

I am headed up to the university of Alabama-Huntsville to run on a cross country and track scholarship. I can not wait to get a fresh start and hopefully open up a whole new level of potential

Who would you like to say thank you to?.

I would like to thank my parents and family. You guys are amazing and a great support group! I wouldn't have been able to accomplish a lot of what I did without you. I want to thank my friends as well. They were always there to cheer me on when we were in town and I know running is the biggest spectator sport so that means a lot. Lastly I'd like thank my coach Scott Gowan for all his time and effort towards developing me as a runner.
