Oak Hall has finished in the top four at the Cross Country Finals the past three seasons including back-to-back runner-up spots in 2011 and 2010. The Eagles have a great chance to take home the top spot on the podium in 2012 due to the experience of their top five. Coach Edwin Mctureous returns three of his top five from last year's team including Brittney Olinger and Lauren Perry. Olinger is a junior, but has competed at the state meet since she was a 7th grader. In those years, she has four top ten finishes. Lauren Perry is one of the team's bright young stars. The 8th grader finished 12th last year and 16th as a 6th grader. She will be the number two runner on this team. Grace Blair completed her first cross country season last year as a sixth grader and finished 27th at the state meet.
On the track Olinger finished 5th in the 3200 at the 1A state championship with a new season best time of 11:11.54. Perry has also broken twelve minutes on the track. Blair has ran 5:15 for 1600 meters and was the lead off leg on the 4x1600 meter relay team at the UF Relays. She also has a 2:18 800 meter time to her credit which she notched at the state meet. Not bad for the youngster! Sophomore Katie Ringdahl and 8th grader Jennifer Cott will make up the rest of the starting five. All of them have 1600 meter times under 6:00.
Last year the team finished second to Providence by just three points. This year they are more experienced as a team and have a combined average 5k time of 19:25.70 coming into the season. At the state meet their average was 20:05.92 without a number seven runner. The top five is set, but it will be interesting to see how much depth this team in the number six and seven spots in case they need someone to step up over the course of the season.
Coach Mctureous Says...
"Our goals are to have the runners compete their best at every race."
"We are looking forward to racing at BK, UF, FLRunners, FSU, and the Bobcat Classic."
