Scouting Report: Our Lady Of Lourdes Girls

Perenial powerhouse Our Lady of Lourdes returns all but one of their varsity team from last year's 4A fifth place team. After looking really good on paper, last year the team just couldn't quite figure out how to put it all together at the same time. This year they hope to change that by having a renewed focus on using the off season to develop more core strength.

Then sophomore Cristina Figueras was the surprise number one for the team much of last season, stepping up for them in some key meets. Figueras, Courtney Filliben, and Lourdes Brea all have sub-19 potential. So if they can stay healthy and execute at the big meets then they could be a real force. Filliben and Brea both had strong showings during track season. Figueras only showed up on the radar a couple of times during the spring, so is harder to gauge.

Lourdes is known for its depth and that, in the end, is what is going to carry them through if they are to be successful this sesaon. In their history they've had strikingly low 1-5 splits; though last season it was local rival John A. Ferguson and Tampa Plant playing that tune. If things go well we could see them right back up there in top three contention this fall!

Coach Rodriguez-Michalak Says...

"This year we are looking to stay more healthy, concerning injuries, than last year. We have implemented this summer a more intense core and stretching conditioning program in hopes to help keep the girls injury free in order to improve our performance from last year. We also are working on improving our gap from 1-7.

We have a couple of new young runners who have dedicated their summer to working hard in hopes of breaking into the top seven and contributing to the success of the team. We also have other current members who have stepped up and are ready for new challenges.

These girls know that we are up against some tough and hungry competition and know that it takes more than one to three individuals to succeed.  As a team we must share a common vision to face any challenges along our way with determination and overcome them with faith, respect and belief in each other and themselves. It is going to take seven runners with this same vision and desire, to accomplish our goal to be a top team to contend with. Our girls know they will have to be tough mentally and physically to challenge the top teams in the state who are battling to be state champions."
