The Hagerty girls' cross country team returns four of it's top seven runners from a 2011 team that finished as conference champions, district champions, region runner-up, and sixth at the 4A state meet. Coach Getty's squad also will receive Bryce Seymour back for her senior year after transferring to Circle Christian as a junior. The Huskies graduate their number one and two runners, sisters, Amy and Sarah Ankli. Amy was conference champion, district champion, and placed 13th at state. She will run for the University of Central Florida. Sister Sarah placed 33rd at the FHSAA Cross Country Finals.. Junior Haley Albers has also moved on, but not to graduation. Albers has moved to Chicago, Illinois where she will run for Downers Grove South High School. Those three will be big losses for Hagerty, but the one thing Getty preaches is the importance of team.
Senior Bryce Seymour will come back to Hagerty after one years at Circle Christian and be the team's number one runner. Last year, she placed fourth at the 1A Cross Country Finals. As a sophomore for Hagerty, Seymour was 13th in 19:07.55. Junior Brenna Johnson will be the team's number two runner. Johnson finished 43rd at state last year and has a season best time of 19:50.55. Tiffany Gargiulo, Tayler Johnson, Kerstin Sosa, Kaylie Catlin,Allison Burgunder will be the starting varsity seven. Six of the seven have a 5K season best under 21:00.
Hagerty will field a well rounded group, but the bad news is 4A is consistently one of the toughest classifications. John A. Ferguson, Plant, St. Thomas Aquinas, and Lourdes, all of which beat out the Huskies a year ago, have strong teams coming back.
