4A District Previews and Virtual Meets

4A District 1

The freshman will battle it out with Danielle Van Liere (Fletcher) and Ania Grzeszczak (Mandarin) going at it for the district title. Flagler Palm Coast will lock horns with Mandarin for the team title, but Buchholz and Fletcher are not far behind. For the boys Thomas Carroll of FPC is the #1 seed, but Mandarin should be able to put a bow on the district team title.

4A District 2

With Bryce Seymour's single point, Hagerty should win the girls titles by doube digits over Lake Mary and Lake Brantley. For the boys, Keneth Pineiro of Deland has been on a tear this year and will win out. But the team title will come down to the fifth man between Lyman and Lake Mary.

4A District 3

Emily Headley and Kaitlyn Campo of Olympia hope to fend off cross-town arch-rivals Dr. Phillips, who are led by Amber Johnson and Bridget Blake. The Boone boys are favored over Olympia not too far behind, followed by Oviedo and Dr. Phillips. They are led by Burkhardt Helfrich and Jared Hines and have been coming out of no where this year to be a major power with Coach Hines now at the helm.

4A District 4

The Colonial girls will have their hands full with a hard-charging Winter Park team stepping it up lately (finally all healthy). Cypress Creek sophomore Kaley Schmick is favored individually.

On the boys side, it's more clear cut with Colonial possibly putting five in the top ten, despite how strong this region is. Colonial's Andres Arroyo is the hands down favorite, don't expect anyone to even attempt to stay with him even early. They'll let him go and the tight battle for second will ensue with freshman Brandon Marquez (Timber Creek) favored over junior Connor Ferrentino of Freedom. Plenty of others wait in the wins including several from Colonial hoping to prove they are on par with Miami Belen Jesuit for the unofficial title of state's best team.

4A District 5

Senior Erin Waterman of St. Petersburg will likely win the individual title, but the team title is much more up for grabs with Palm Harbor, Seminole, and St. Pete all in the mix.

For the boys, Paul McKenna of Countryside has been running well lately and we'll see a rematch against Sam Chandler who he beat at the county championships lately with a new more agressive race strategy. Team-wise Chandler and St. Petersburg strike first with a solid top three. But Seminole comes back with a really narrow 1-5 split to pull even in the virtual meet. When we run the numbers by season average, it is all Seminole and that's probably what you should bet on. But the sixth runner better be on point just in case!

4A District 6

Plant will dominate, looking for a perfect 15 sweep. If Julia Rodriguez runs then she will be the individual district champ. With Coach Boza's boys stepping it up to try to get out of the shadow of Coach Harrison's girls, Plant may pull off the perfect sweep. They are seeded to go 1-6 in the virtual meet behind Travis Lucas.

Virtual Meets:  Girls | Boys

4A District 7

Top five ranked Newsome's girls will not be stopped, despite a strong challenger in Sarasota Riverview. Brianna Jackson (Newsome) is favored individually. She has had a strong year including the flrunners.com Invitational second-tier elite division win.

For the boys Newsome's Lars Brenner should be able to cruise in for victory. But it is North Port's boys who have been looking best this year and may be able to upset Newsome.

4A District 8

In the virtual meet, whether you parse it by season best or season average, the Vero Beach girls put seven (or more) before anyone else's one. So enough said, they'll take home the title with Danielle Traynor in the front of that pack.

Vero is favored to take the boys title as well with superior depth to keep them ahead of Treasure Coast and Ft. Pierce Central. Jaymes Cole is their number one and should have enough to win.

4A District 9

Jupiter sophomore Courtney Zboyan was having a great year but has been kind of M.I.A. since early October. Let's hope she's okay... if so then she should win easily. If not then Michelle Howell (Seminole Ridge), Kayle Doyle (Park Vista), and Morgan Hull (Palm Beach Central) are waiting in the wings to try to steal it.  Watch out for Laurel Brennan of Park Vista. She was a star last year, but has been off to a slow start so far this season... maybe rounding into some shape though by this time of the season. That would bode well for her Park Vista team will be in a close one versus Jupiter, so they could use every point shaved off they can get! Dwyer is seeded third and are a solid team in the depth department.

On the boys side, John I. Leonard vs. Park Vista will be a barn burner. Leonard will likely have only three points between Charles Bengston and Salvator Medrano. But Vista has a good pack waiting to try to cross five before four. So it will be tight!

4A District 10

Ellyn Snider and her Spanish River girls are anticipated to win out. The individual boys title is anyone's to claim: William Fay, Tyler Bell, Francisco Baglieri, Anthony Deleva, Matan Ozery, and Caleb Rader could all win it on a good day. Team-wise it's a three way battle between Spanish River, Boca Raton, and Douglas.

Virtual Meets:  Girls | Boys

4A District 11

Boyd Anderson girls should win with Taravella's Camilia Rey favored individually. On the boys side, Nova and Taravella will be a nail-biter with Nova's sophomore Tomas Giminez-Beron in the driver's seat individually.

Virtual Meets:  Girls | Boys

4A District 12

No offense to anyone else, but St. Thomas Aquinas owns this district. They should have no problem sweeping all four titles: boys and girls team and individual. There is a good chance they will even do so with a perfect 15 all the way around. Alexa Cuz is the hands down favorite for the girls. And Matthew Butler for the boys may tussle with his teammate Alexander Haugen for the championship.

Virtual Meets:  Girls | Boys

4A District 13

Kassandra Blandon and the Miami Beach girls are pegged to win, but Doral could surprise. For the boys Dr. Krop is the big favorite with a strong group in the 19s. Tristan Enriquez of American is seeded the boys champ.

Virtual Meets:  Girls | Boys

4A District 14

Veerley Mejia's Miami Coral Park will fight it out with Coral Gables on the girls side. Daniel Fernandez and his highly ranked Christopher Columbus boys may likely get seven in before anyone else puts one across.

Virtual Meets:  Girls | Boys

4A District 15

It will be fun to see who prevails on the girls side between John A. Ferguson and Our Lady of Lourdes. Both will likely be top five at state and are in a virtual dead heat. The team title is up in the air between Lourdes Brea (Lourdes), Katrnia Santiago (Ferguson), Courtney Filliben (Lourdes) and Aylwyn Hernandez (Ferguson). Ferguson's strength and the deciding factor will be based on depth and if they get five under Lourdes' four then game over.

The Ferguson boys will have their hands full against the upstart Miami Sunset. With Columbus transfer Kenny Castro and Nick Diaz up front, they should start out with three points which always helps.

Virtual Meets:  Girls | Boys

4A District 16

Lea Tardanico of Varela is favorted overall, but Barbra Vilson of South Dade tends to come on strong at the end of the year. Coral Reef versus South Dade will be a tight team battle.

For the boys Kurt Convey of Coral Reef is favored big over Fabian Delgado of Killian, and Reef should be able to nail down the team title over rival Varela.
