Meet Recap
Lake Nona freshman Adair Lyden came to the 2A school from 1A Westminster Academy and has looked very good in 2012. Lyden had three top finishes in the past three weeks and got her second win of the season at Friday's 2iA-7 District Championship. The freshman dominated early on and led the whole race. She won her district as an 8thgrader and now again as a 9th grader crossing the line in 19:12.00. Lake Highland sophomore Rachel Stockton was second in 20:42.50. Bishop Moore sophomore Alyssa Hatton rounded out the top three with a time of 21:13.90. Only three teams in the girls standings for this district. Lake Highland won with 28 points followed by Bishop Moore (41) and Lake Nona (65).
The Lake Nona boys were taking note of Lyden's performance. Not to be outdone, Jean Carlos Peralta and George Velez made same noise of their own. The duo waited in the shadows Lake Highland senior Payton Bailey. Bailey led midway through the race as the group emerged from the baseball fields, but it was the Lions who emerged in the final meters to protect their home territory. Peralta, the freshman, crossed the line to claim his first district title in 16:43.80. Velez was second in 16:49.10 and Bailey was the other lone runner to break 17 minutes finishing third in 16:52.00. Lake Nona won the team title easily with 21 points. The Lions placed their top five in the top 21 spots. Bishop Moore was second (60 points), Lake Highland third (64 points), and Poinciana fourth (117 points).
