On-Site Coverage

Meet Recap

Teams from in and around Jacksonville and North Florida unleashed their district fury on the course at Bartram Trail High School site of the 3A-3 meet.

In the girls race a group of five took the lead early led by Sarah Heisner of Creekside and a pair of Bartram Trail and Nease runners. At the finish, Heisner, who transferred to Creekside from California, emerged from the fog and crossed the line in 19:26.92. Jessica Fletcher of Ridgeview was second in 19:31.37. The Bartram Trail duo of Rachael Ingoldsby and Hannah Giangaspro finished third and fourth in 19:37.88 and 19:39.67. They were the only four runners to break twenty minutes.

Bartram Trail placed it's top five runners in the top twenty in what was a great battle on the team side.  BT scored 55 points, Nease 60, and Creekside 68 points. Ridgeview took the final ticket to regionals with 94 points.

The race of the day was the boys race. Creekside's David Tampa. St. Augustines Noah Kemp and Ridgeview's Cody Boyer  took to the front of the pack running three wide. However, Tampa's teammate Zach Bias was sitting in their shadows waiting to make his move. On the final curve, it was a shootout between Kemp and Bias running stride for stride to the line. Both runners pouring their hearts out in the last 50 meters, their emotions saying it all,  Bias pulls away by the narrowest of margins to win in 16:37.60. Less than two seconds later Kemp crosses in 16:39.50. Tampa and Boyer round out the top four in 16:44.99 and 16:47.32. The four-some were the only runners to break seventeen minutes.

Bias and Tampa's performances gave Creekside the team championship with 42 points. The Knights placed their top five in the top seventeen spots. Ridgeview edged out St. Augustine 60-64 for second place. Nease picked up the final spot to regionals with a fourth place finish and 102 points.
